Dark Scimitar ran a great race in defeat yesterday evening.
The beautiful son of Verrazano was having only his second start, ran in the Betway Novice Stakes at Wolverhampton, over one mile and one and a half furlongs.
He was ridden by Stefano Cherchi who claims 7.
He jumped out smartly from the widest draw, and managed to get over to press the leader, setting a strong pace, sitting one off the rail, where he stayed for the most part of the race.
Coming round the final bend, Dark Scimitar and the favourite, Discovery Island were winding up the pace, and having a real battle in front, when Media Storm got a run down the outside, the 3 horses coming together with Dark Scimitar squeezed up in the middle, the horse on the outside ran on to win by a neck from Dark Scimitar who came out on top in his battle with Discovery Island to snatch second.
This was a great ride from Stefano and a brave, battling performance from Dark Scimitar in only his second start for trainer Marco Botti.
Some of the owners, The Marrone De Bianco Partnership were there to cheer him on and enjoy the race.
It shouldn’t be too long before Dark Scimitar is in the winners enclosure, based on that performance.
