Melek Alreeh won on his second start of 2024 by taking the Always Gamble Responsibly With BetUK Handicap at Southwell last night.

Ridden by Luke Morris, he was drawn 5 of 7 runners in the mile and a half contest.

He was ridden towards the rear of the field with Luke making headway from over 2 furlongs out, where he got to the front with a furlong to go, just holding off a sustained challenge form Optician who was chasing a five timer, but was denied by Melek Alreeh who won by a short head in a thrilling finish.

The pair were 6 1/2 lengths clear of the rest of the field.

A well deserved win for this son of Lemon Drop Kid and owner Mr Raed El Youssef who is enjoying a great start to 2024.

Trainer David Simcock was there to pick up the trophy.
