Al Nayyir made a fantastic first start for trainer Tom Clover in the Group 2 Weatherbys Hamilton Lonsdale Cup at York this afternoon.

The globe trotting 6 year old son of the great Dubawi has been with Tom since switching from France in early July.

He ran in a very competitive group 2, which is run over the extended 2 miles at York.

He was drawn 6 of the 9 runners, was ridden by Luke Morris and the ground was good.

He jumped ok and was settled towards the rear of the field where he was a little keen early on, but soon dropped his head.

There wasn’t much change in the order for the most part of the race.

4 out Luke started to ride him and ask for an effort, he started to pass horses from the back, in the last furlong, he sprouted wings and showed us that amazing turn of foot that we know he has and tried his best to run down the leader, Vauban but was just denied and was beaten a short head for second, but finishing 3 lengths back to the third placed horse, long time leader, Gregory, and picking up some valuable prize money.

This was a brilliant run from him and a delighted owner Mr Elbashir Elhrari was there to see him.
